JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — COVID continues its grip on communities throughout Wyoming. With the return to school this fall, some school districts are already experiencing challenges.
Cheyenne area schools saw an outbreak of nearly 50 cases of the coronavirus, according to a story in the Cowboy State Daily last week. Laramie County School District No. 1 reported 39 cases among students and 10 cases involving staff.
And the hits keep coming. Hot Springs County School District No. 1 today announced the cancellation of all schools in its district and the cancelation of related sports including the upcoming football game between Thermopolis and Tongue River scheduled for this Friday.
More than 30% of students in the district were out sick or on quarantine protocol, prompting Superintendent of Schools Dustin Hunt to make the decision today to move to remote learning for the next two weeks until September 13.
Statewide, total active COVID cases are at 3,439. That’s up by 2,468 from just a month ago. COVID-19 is responsible for 82 deaths in Wyoming in August.
