Lightning sparks small fire up Strawberry Creek near Bedford
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Last night’s thunder storm packed more lightning than anything else. Some rain associated with event but mostly lightning and that likely is the cause of a single tree torching up Strawberry Creek in Star Valley.
Teton Fire Interagency reports a 6HE helicopter responded today to a report of smoke in Strawberry Creek, east of Bedford. A single tree, spot fire was located and fire personnel are taking full suppression action at this time.
The fire is listed as a tenth of an acre.
Meanwhile, the Sand Creek Fire west of Lander is drawing a lot of attention from firefighters. The blaze is burning on the Washakie Ranger District of the Shoshone National Forest. It was first reported September 9. Since then, the fire has grown to 749 acres.
The Sand Creek Fire is 0% contained with about 170 working on the event, including two Type 1 helicopters and a Type 3 chopper working on water drops all day Sunday.
A Type 3 Incident Team has been ordered and should be in place later today. The cause of the fire is unknown.
