JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Authorities in Wyoming confirmed the body found in Spread Creek Sunday was that of the missing 22-year-old Gabby Petito.
Teton County Coroner Brent Blue was dispatched earlier today to retrieve remains found by searchers in Spread Creek. The FBI confirmed the body matches that of Petito and her parents have been notified.
Petito had been the subject of nationwide interest after going missing during a cross-country camping trip with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie.
New evidence pointed to Spread Creek as a possible place Petito was seen last, camping with Laundrie. Laundrie was spotted later alone and without the couple’s van. A massive search was launched Saturday and continued today when Petito’s body was discovered.
Complete forensic identification has not yet been completed, and cause of death at this time is still not confirmed.
