Ghee pushes opening day as winter dawdles

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Grand Targhee Resort pushed opening day down the road a bit as Mother Nature has not so far cooperated.

The resort with a snow guarantee is finding early-season powder is far from certain. Scheduled opening day for its 53rd season of operation was to be this Friday, November 19 but, alas, it is not to be.

“Due to the recent warm temperatures and the lack of snowfall we are postponing the start of the season here at Grand Targhee,” the resort announced this week. “Our new opening day is yet to be determined but will be based upon the conditions going forward. All eyes are on the approaching storm this Friday.”

Coming out of a year of COVID in 2020-21, the resort expects to be spinning at full capacity with some restrictions like requiring masks indoors and on the Teton Valley Bus and parking lot shuttles.

“Please prepare to use your car as a home base as indoor gear storage will be limited to lockers,” the Ghee stated.

For now, tune your gear and pray for snow. The Friday forecast looks promising.
