WYDOT dealing with smaller slides in Snake River Canyon
Teton Pass still closed, Hoback Canyon will close at 6pm to bring down Cow of the Woods
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — WYDOT says multiple slides in the Snake River Canyon are problematic right now.
Warmer weather and heavy, wet snow has caused several minor slides on U.S. 89 in the Snake River Canyon but so far plows have been able to keep up with it. If slides continue to happen it is likely that the canyon will be closed.
Teton Pass remains closed for avalanche mitigation (as of 4pm) with an unknown estimated reopening time. Hoback Canyon remains open as of 4pm, but crews are expected to close U.S. 189/191 at 6pm in order to bring down snow at Cow of the Woods.
WYDOT has issued a no unnecessary travel advisory today for the Snake River Canyon, due to blowing snow, slick roads and limited visibility.
The avalanche hazard forecast has spiked to HIGH in all areas, according to the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center.
