Chris Leigh appointed municipal judge for Jackson
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Christopher S. Leigh was named municipal judge for the Town of Jackson at a meeting of the Town Council Monday.
Leigh replaces Judge Melissa M. Owens, who was kicked upstairs to be district court judge for the Ninth Judicial District by Governor Gordon. The opening was created with the retirement of Judge Timothy Day.
Town Council received numerous applications and held interviews with three applicants including Leigh, Richard Stout and Brian Hultman.
“I am humbled to have the opportunity to apply and am fully prepared to accept the responsibilities and requirements of the position. I look forward to carrying on the professionalism that Judge Owens has instilled in the municipal court,” Leigh stated in his application. “I have thoughtfully considered the professional sacrifice it will require by reducing my private practice and…advocating for and representing the neutral position that is required of the municipal judgeship.”
Judge Leigh has already served as a municipal judge, alternate municipal judge, and circuit court magistrate judge. The Connecticut native moved to Jackson in 1978 to ski and, like most of us, was hooked into fulltime living in the valley. Leigh is also a volunteer with Search and Rescue since 2010.
Making the appointment, Mayor Morton Levinson expressed gratitude to everyone that applied sharing that it was an impressive slate of candidates, which showed the immense talent of community members in this valley.
