Shed hunter injured, rescued from Curtis Canyon
First pageout of the season 18 minutes after backcountry opened
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — First day after winter seasonal closures are lifted on the Bridger-Teton National Forest, combined with the rush of shed hunters to get out and score the best antlers, usually involves at incident of some kind. This time around, it didn’t take long.
Just minutes after the start of the shed hunting season on Sunday, May 1, a woman came down with a suspected broken leg after she fell from her horse in the Sheep Creek area of Curtis Canyon.
Teton County Search and Rescue stood ready for the call that came in at 6:18am. Team members dusted off the wheeled litter and RZR side-by-side for a team ground response. The woman was assessed at the scene, packaged up, and transported via wheeled litter to an ambulance at the trailhead.
The volunteers then returned to the hangar for a debrief and to prep the equipment for the next callout, completing the mission in 2 hours, 12 minutes.
