Airport artwork takes flight
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Jackson Hole Airport features many pieces of artwork to interest travelers as they wait for a flight or on the baggage carousel. If the exterior sights aren’t enough to wow the average visitor, myriad works of art are sure to make an impression that is distinctly Jackson Hole.
Travelers are treated to sculptures by Terry Chambers, Danny Edwards, and Tim Cherry. There are paintings of Chinese artist Z.S. Liang and Tennessee’s Richard Painter. Artwork on loan from Fighting Bear Antiques and donated by The Wort Hotel include unique moccasin displays of the Arapaho, Shoshone, Crow, Northern Cheyenne, and Gros Ventre Tribes.
And how about the massive Arrival Over the Snake aerial silhouette? The brushed stainless-steel rendering by Bland Hoke, Shane Lindsay, and Terry Chambers captures the view visible from airplanes as they make their final approach into Jackson Hole Airport. The flight path crosses the Snake River at the very spot early homesteaders did, where the river narrows to a single channel: Menor’s Ferry.
Above all, Wyoming loves its cowboy heritage. Nelson Boren’s whimsical watercolor is a fun-loving look at the ranching lifestyle of Jackson Hole. The historic ranch brand project by Aidan Kim-Miller and his local Boy Scout troop is a recent addition. In 2020, the Eagle Scout project resulted in the ‘branding’ of various benches at the airport with some 18 different historic area ranches.
Next time you’re at the Jackson Hole Airport, remind yourself to look around…and enjoy the sights.
