Area bears off to a rough start

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — It has been a rough start to spring for area bears. Grizzly 863 (popularly known as Felicia), has had her issues on Togwotee Pass, two black bears were hit and killed recently, and now a sub-adult male grizzly has been captured and relocated.

A black bear was hit and killed early last week on U.S. Highway 26/287 near the Teton-Fremont county line. Later in the week, another black bear was mowed down on Highway 22 on the Idaho side of Teton Pass.

Lastly, a sub-adult male grizzly bear was relocated on June 16 by Wyoming Game and Fish Department after consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The bear was captured for frequenting a guest ranch on Shoshone National Forest lands near the North Fork of the Shoshone River, west of Cody. In cooperation with the USFWS and the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, the bear was relocated to the Grassy Lake area approximately 25 miles northwest of Moran.
