Bill Campbell Legacy Endowment takes shape at Ski & Snowboard Club

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club (JHSC) today announced the establishment of the Bill Campbell Legacy Endowment.

With the guidance of Bill’s family, the endowment was created earlier this year as a means to provide operational stability for the future of the JHSC and to honor Bill’s passion for ski racing and his commitment to the long-term success of the organization.

The Bill Campbell Legacy Endowment (BCLE) was officially created in March of 2021 but has been in a quiet phase of fundraising for the past seven months. With the help of 44 quiet phase supporters, of whom are close friends and family to Bill, the endowment reached $66,335 by October 2021. The JHSC hopes to reach an overall goal of $1M in the coming years, at which point the endowment will have a significant financial impact on the organization’s annual operating budget.

“Bill was a tireless supporter of sports, children, and the community we all love over several decades in the valley. This legacy endowment is a fitting tribute to his passions that will have a lasting benefit on the club and community,” commented Dr. Shannon Owens, JHSC board president.

Bill Campbell served on the JHSC board for 12 years as he watched his grandkids progress through JHSC’s Alpine program while participating in Pica’s Margarita Cups, Ski Balls, Ski Swaps, and Town Downhills. He was always smiling, joking, and willing to listen.

The endowment will represent long-term sustainability and ensure accessibility to world-class ski and snowboard programming for future generations. It will allow JHSC to weather the inherent potential of unexpected financial turns. With the growth of this endowment, JHSC will be able to increase support for athletes, retain athletes across the financial spectrum and expand competitive opportunities for all aspiring champions.

“One of my favorite quotes about Bill shared at his celebration of life this past October was that he always ‘took the best line,’ a reference to his skiing and the way he went about life,” said Brittney Ziebell, JHSC development director. “I believe that Bill, his family, his friends, and his supporters are helping the JHSC ‘take the best line’ for many years to come through this legacy endowment.”
