Bridger Teton Avalanche Center Foundation hires executive director
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Bridger Teton Avalanche Center Foundation announced the hiring of Dwayne Meadows as its new executive director.
Meadows will head the foundation that is responsible for nearly 70% of the funding for the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center. The U.S. Forest Service Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center provides daily avalanche forecasts, outreach, and accident investigations throughout the winter for the Grey’s River, Togwotee, and Teton regions.
The avalanche center operates in partnership with the Grand Teton National Park Foundation, Wyoming State Trails, Teton County SAR, and many other community organizations. Previously, Meadows was the executive director of the Wyoming Wildlife Federation.
“I am excited to build financial support for the great work of the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center. Having a daily avalanche forecast is essential to our snow sports community helping them make crucial safety decisions when traveling in the backcountry,” Meadows said. “Strong financial support by those who use it every day is crucial to keeping forecasters on the mountain and daily avalanche info at your fingertips.”
The Bridger Teton Avalanche Center Foundation not only funds avalanche forecasting, weather stations, and field days, they help host important events like the annual Skinny Skis Avalanche Night and help provide avalanche education to backcountry users throughout the region.
