CDC: Fully vaccinated can ditch mask indoors

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Just as county health authorities eased COVID risk to Green (New Normal) on Wednesday comes news the CDC is relaxing mask-wearing while indoors for those vaccinated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today updated their mask-wearing guidance for individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. According to the updated guidance, individuals who are fully vaccinated can resume activities without wearing a mask or physical distancing except where masks or distancing are required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, regulations and orders including local business and workplace policies.

CDC made these updates due to continued evidence showing that fully vaccinated individuals are less likely to have an asymptomatic COVID-19 infection or transmit COVID-19 to others. As a reminder, people are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.

Those not yet fully vaccinated should continue to protect themselves and others by wearing a mask indoors and in crowded outdoor settings.

It is recommended that individuals who are immunocompromised consult with their doctor about mask use. Everyone, even vaccinated individuals, are advised to wear face masks and physically distance when going to doctors’ offices, hospitals, or long-term care facilities such as assisted living centers and nursing homes, in homeless shelters and when in prisons.

Other locations where individuals should still wear a face mask include when traveling on buses, planes, trains, or other methods

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is available in Teton County for anyone 12 and older. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines are available to anyone 18 and older. Book a time or learn more.
