COVID community update coming Wednesday
Town and county will meet this week to discuss extending mask order
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — As town and county boards prepare to decide whether to extend a countywide mask mandate implemented August 26 and set to expire September 4, a COVID community update has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 1.
Representatives from St. John’s Health, the Teton County Health Department, Town Council, and the Teton County Board of County Commissioners will provide the latest COVID-19 information virtually at noon Wednesday. The meeting will be streamed live. Find it online on the town’s website by clicking the “Watch a Meeting” icon.
Transmission of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in particular has Teton County numbers soaring. County officials say masks and vaccinations are helping keep the spread in check to a degree but more than half (58.4%) of positive cases come from those who were vaccinated.
The update will include local experts sharing the current situation, mitigation measures in place, resources currently available, and actions that individuals can take to help protect themselves from contracting the virus.
Meanwhile, the town council meets today to decide on whether to extend Health Order 21-5, requiring face coverings in most indoor settings, beyond September 4. That would pertain to town only. The county is prepared to discuss a possible countywide extension at a meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 2.
