Detour in place for Astoria bridge traffic
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Damage to the bridge over the Snake River at Astoria Hot Springs is causing traffic to residents of Snake River Sporting Club and users of Astoria Park to have to detour using a local access road.
The historic red bridge was damaged last week when a semi-truck clipped the upper portions of the bridge making it unsafe for use. The bridge has been closed to all vehicles and pedestrians until further notice.
The only access to Astoria at this time is the approved emergency access route from Hoback Junction. To access this road from Jackson or Pinedale, proceed through Hoback Junction roundabout toward Alpine, then take an immediate left onto Hoback Junction South Road before crossing the bridge over the Snake River.
Driving from Alpine, Star or Swan Valley, pass the red bridge on the way to Hoback Junction. Drive time will be about 20 minutes longer than normal.
After turning onto this alternate access road, follow the paved road and cross the small bridge over the Hoback River. Continue to follow the road until it ends. At the fork, take a sharp right turn onto the single lane dirt road and follow it until reaching Astoria Hot Springs. It is an approximate 15-minute drive using this alternate route.
Please remember, this is a 15mph Forest Service road and has sections of one-way traffic. Please drive slowly.
