Farmers Market kicks off 2021 summer season

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Jackson Hole Farmers Market is underway for another summer with a full slate of vendors, live music, and highlighted nonprofits of the week.

Last Saturday marked the opening weekend for the market on the town square. Teton County Search and Rescue Foundation was the nonprofit designated to receive 10% of event’s total sales. Each week a different nonprofit is highlighted.

The Farmers Market board usually chooses the nonprofits before each season but, for the first time ever this season, vendors helped decide what nonprofits should receive support.

Jenny May Shervin chairs the market board. She explained that vendors wanted a say in where their money was going so, together with the board, the list was whittled down to:

The Farmers Market was one of the few largescale events to take place last summer despite restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID. It was a difficult decision that caused upheaval amongst the board, according to Shervin. In the end, the market ran safely and smoothly for 12 weeks and was able to donate $31,000 to local nonprofits.

“The vendors, especially, were ecstatic that we were able to pull it off. They all said they couldn’t thank us enough,” Shervin said.

The title sponsor for 2021 is Mountain Standard Realty. The live music sponsor, helping to pay musicians, is Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.

  • A special grant was added two years ago when it was noticed some small farms were having trouble staffing a booth at the event while also trying to keep the home front running.

The Farm to Market grant was born. It pays out $4,000 in total—$2,000 up front and then $200 per event for at least 10 of the 12 weeks the market runs. Four vendors utilized the program in 2019, two in 2020.

Farmers Market of Jackson Hole is held every Saturday from 8am to noon.
