JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Governor Mark Gordon declared May 1-7 as National Travel and Tourism Week in the state of Wyoming during a proclamation signing Tuesday at the State Capitol Building.
In 2021, Wyoming welcomed 8.1 million overnight visitors who spent over $4.2 billion; a 38 percent increase from 2020. Visitor spending directly affected Wyoming’s economy by generating $258 million in local and state tax revenues, which helps fund jobs and public programs.
“Here’s to a great tourism week and the busy summer months ahead, showcasing Wyoming’s beauty to all who visit,” Gordon said.
In Teton County, where tourism is the main economic driver, visitation has sometimes pushed infrastructure and patience to the brink. Groups like the Travel & Tourism Board, charged with spending tax money on promoting Jackson Hole, have switched gears to send a message of smart, sustainable travel.
