JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — WYDOT’s ‘Jackson South’ project continues plugging along as road crews race against time and weather to get some aspects completed before the snow flies.
While the ‘Snake River 500’ Star Valley commute crowd has had to bear the brunt of it, delays have been admittedly minimal.
WYDOT project engineer David Kaufman took a little time out recently to update motorists on the progress of the widening of S Highway 89 between Hoback Junction and Jackson.
Kaufman said the challenges fir engineers on a job like this are many. A separated bike path, no less than six wildlife crossings, and some seven-and-a-half miles of deer fencing. And we haven’t even come to the bridge yet.
That has been a bear. Kaufman said the widening of the bridge over the Snake River to four lanes and a bike/pedestrian lane has involved an enormous amount of concrete, geotech work, and slide stabilization.
The project got underway in 2017. It is slated for completion in fall 2022.
