JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Smoke from an Idaho brush fire made its way into the Valley yesterday and will continue to provide a hazy view of the Tetons for a few more days this week.
The Moose Fire was discovered Sunday, July 17 burning about 21 miles north of Salmon, Idaho. It has since grown to 12,238 acres, showing extreme fire behavior and threatening the town of Salmon.
Smoke from this fire is trickling into the valley thanks to a westerly wind pattern, which is expected to change to a more typical SW wind, taking the smoke to the north of Jackson Hole.
According to AirNow, which monitors air quality for communities, the Jackson index has fallen sharply in the past 48 hours to an AQI of 54. At this level of air quality, unusually sensitive people are advised to reduce outdoor activity and remain indoors.
