Jackson Hole Airport wraps up Phase I of reconstruction

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Airport is winding up Phase I reconstruction in preparation for the next phase which will close the airport for more than three months next spring.

“We are reaching a successful conclusion of Phase 1 of the Runway 1/19 Reconstruction Project and are excited to share that our crews are beginning clean-up efforts and demobilizing equipment from the airport,” said the airport. “We listened and worked with those who contacted us to address issues and concerns regarding the construction work. As a result, we worked to address comments by redirecting night lights to be less intrusive, replacing equipment back-up beepers with less disruptive warning signals, and worked with our construction partners to ensure safe operations and speeds of our truck haulers.”

So far, so good with Phase I. the airport announced it has successfully repaved the south end runway safety area, installed nearly 2,000 feet of slot drain, screened and crushed over 20,000 cubic yards of subbase course onsite using native material excavated onsite.

Phase II of the reconstruction plan will require the airport to close to all traffic beginning April 11, 2022 through June 28, 2022. The second phase will include runway milling, removal and replacement, drainage and edge light installations, screening and crushing, and batch plant activities.
