Jen Jellen steps down as ED for Fund for Public Education

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Fund for Public Education (FPE) has grown leaps and bounds since undergoing a strategic restructuring and name change in 2019. Much of this growth was under the leadership of executive director Jennifer Jellen, who has worked closely with the FPE board to shape an organization that could holistically support Teton County School District #1, which encompasses ten public schools, over 500 district staff, and nearly 3,000 students.

This week, Jellen announced that she will be resigning from the Fund.

“I am so proud of all we’ve accomplished,” Jellen said. “I am so grateful to all the teachers, administrators, kids, and donors, that I have met over the past three years. They are the heart of this community and it has been a privilege to work with them all.”

Jellen added that her decision to resign was difficult and was reluctantly made after a close family member sustained a serious and debilitating injury.

“I would love to stay with the Fund, but commitment to family has to come first and I’m needed there. I am completely confident that the Fund will continue to soar and to accomplish great things for our public schools. I look forward to cheering on that success every step of the way,” she said.

During Jellen’s tenure, the Fund for Public Education introduced or expanded programs that provide free dental and orthodontic care for local kids in need, childcare for teen mothers, and free mental health care for students. It also helped expand the district’s meal programs and has provided support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Between 2019 and 2022, the Fund for Public Education granted over $1 million to TCSD#1.

“Jen did a fabulous job for us and we’re sorry to see her go,” said board member Greg Prugh. “She provided huge vision and momentum for our organization.”

In response to Jellen’s resignation, the Fund for Public Education’s board of directors has set up a search committee and is launching a national search for its next executive director.

“The ideal candidate will have the experience, passion, and drive to maintain the organization’s growth,” said board member Annie Band. “Our schools are amazing, but they have real needs and the Fund for Public Education is committed to meeting those needs today and tomorrow and for many years to come.”

Candidates interested in applying for the position should send a resume, cover letter, and contact information for three professional references to the Fund for Public Education, care of Annie Band at annieband5@gmail.com.
