JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club (JHSC) Hall of Fame committee announced the induction of seven new members into the class of 2022.
Now, in its 83rd season, JHSC serves more than 500 young athletes. In 2014, the club established the JHSC Ski Museum and the JHSC Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame currently includes 22 members and will continue to induct a new class every four years just before the Winter Olympics.
2022 inductees
Med and Petie Bennett: Lifelong skiers who competed on the Nordic Masters national circuit for nearly fifteen years, qualifying for the World Masters Championships in Germany in 1985. Their participation in and support of the JHSC Nordic Program is an inspiration to many.
Scott Bowdler: JHSC Alpine program director who oversaw the completion of new club facilities and exponential growth in participation at all age levels in the club in the 1990s. An enthusiastic leader, Scott coached many Jackson athletes to national prominence in ski racing.
John Griber: A pioneer in snowboarding in the valley who directed and was the head coach for the first JHSC snowboard program, overseeing its rapid growth in the 1990s. John’s 20-year career as a professional snowboarder took him to all seven continents mountaineering, riding, and filming.
Mike Hammer: Longtime supporter and participant in the JHSC—former board member, interim executive director, 20-year race starter, and masters race program participant. As president of the Intermountain Division of USSA in 2007, Mike led the incorporation of IMD in Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
Rick Hunt: Tireless supporter of the JHSC, former board member and president, and leader of the “Building Our Base” campaign, Rick sponsored the JH Downhill for nearly two decades. He is a pioneering ski mountaineer, cinematographer, and one of the founders of heli-skiing in Valdez, Alaska.
Tom Johnston: JHSC Alpine program director who raised the bar for racecourse preparation and safety standards, which he has carried to a multitude of World Cup and Olympic venues. One of the foremost experts in the world on race hill preparation, and the current technical advisor for the US Ski Team, Tom is currently in Beijing for the Winter Olympic Games.
Pam Weiss: A pioneer in US Women’s Biathlon, who was named to the first Women’s Biathlon team in 1980 and was the US Olympic Committee’s 1982 Biathlete of the Year. During the 1980s, Pam was a medalist at several world championships as well as a volunteer coach for the JHSC. She was a member of the JHSC board of directors in the early 1990s.
Inductees into the Hall of Fame Class of 2022 will be honored at an induction celebration to be held on June 2, 2022.
