Jim McCollum declares for House District 16 seat

Father of slain Marine will challenge 2-term incumbent Mike Yin

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Wyoming native Jim McCollum is throwing his hat in the ring in a bid for the HD16 seat in the state Legislature.

“Jackson and Teton County need a voice in Cheyenne that is both strong in conviction and resolute in representing the people of Jackson, Teton County, and Wyoming,” McCollum said.

McCollum promises to bring a commonsense approach to the issues that affect the community as well as communities across the state. He will run as a Republican.

McCollum is the father of LCPL Rylee McCollum who was killed in Afghanistan by a suicide bomber while assisting with evacuations. McCollum said he wants to exemplify those same selfless and compassionate traits in bringing a voice to the people of Wyoming.

“My family and I have known working class struggles for generations, and I can bring an understanding of what matters most to the hard working people of Teton County and Wyoming,” McCollum said.

McCollum states his campaign as: “Jim McCollum is Wyoming! The true grit of the ‘Last and Best of the American West!’”

McCollum is the only challenger to file so far for the House District seat held by Democrat Mike Yin since he won election in 2018. Yin is now finishing his second term two-year term. He has declared his intention to seek reelection.

District 16 covers most of the Town of Jackson.
