Mission Fin-possible: thousands of fish rescued
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — How do you rescue 2,700 fish? One fish at a time.
It’s not a twist on the old joke. It really happened that way for a bunch of agile volunteers who took to a network of irrigation ditches and creeks to in order to net and relocate fish in danger of dying as water levels dried out.
Mission FIN-possible was a huge success as thousands of fish were scooped up and returned them to the Snake River by the bucketful. Crews saved fish of many vital species, including the Snake River Fine Spotted Cutthroat Trout.
It was a collaborative effort with Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming Game and Fish, Trout Unlimited, local fishing guides, and dozens of volunteers.
