Moose complete weekend wipeout of Reno

Sanders and Akins open the floodgates in pair of lopsided wins

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Moose look in mid-season form as they easily handled the Reno Ice Raiders over the weekend in a pair of lopsided wins.

Friday: Jackson 16, Reno 0

Less than five minutes into the 2021-22 season and the Moose had a goal from their sharpshooter Drew Akins (2G, 6A), as the top forward notched his first with help from Jason Reese (3G, 4A) and Nate Goss-Woliner (3A).

Brian Upesleja, Reese, Ryan Glantz (2G, 1A), and AJ Sanders (4G, 5A) would all also tally before the 1st period was over. In all, Jackson lit the lamp 16 times from 8 different scorers in the 16-0 shutout posted by Nick Krauss, who stopped all 26 shots he saw Friday night.

Saturday: Jackson 8, Reno 2

Saturday’s affair was a bit closer. AJ Sanders picked up the game’s opening goal and the Moose took a 1-0 into the first intermission.

Reno came out flying in the 2nd period and too a brief 2-1 lead until Reese tallied to tie at 2-2. George Steiner got the GWG midway through the 2nd, and mates Sanders, Akins, and Mike Longo added insurance for the 8-2 win.

Robbie Leslie made 22 saves on 24 shots in goal for the Moose.

Reno did not travel with some of their better players including their top scorer and No. 1 goalie.

The Moose are off until Nov. 12-13 when they host the Bozeman Stingers.
