Names added to Veteran’s Memorial on town square
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Today the American Legion Local Post 43, in partnership with the Town of Jackson, will be adding names to the monument in town square.
The newly designed monument was put in place in 2021 to allow for more opportunities to add the names of military veterans who were born or raised in Jackson Hole.
The monument has been at the center of town square for more than 45 years with Steamboat, the Wyoming bucking bronco, greeting tens of thousands of visitors annually. Etching work will take place from approximately 11am to late in the afternoon.
For more information on the monument or the Jackson Hole Chapter of the American Legion (est. 1920) you can visit the following website.
A significant effort was undertaken to develop as complete a list as possible of qualified veterans for inclusion on the new monument. A qualified veteran must satisfy these criteria:
- Have served, and been honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, or Coast Guard. A DD214 form for a veteran to be added to the monument will be required.
- Must satisfy one or more of the following criteria:
- Have been born in Jackson Hole or nearby environs
- Have joined one of the aforementioned U.S. military branches while residing in Jackson Hole
- Have been buried in, or have ashes spread in Jackson Hole
- Have resided in Jackson Hole for at least 25 years
