National Trails Day volunteers help out at Taggart
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — If you were out hiking recently in the Taggart Lake area perhaps you noticed a gaggle of volunteers with shovels, pickaxes, trimmer, and other hand tools. That was a volunteer group totaling 18 strong helping to improve the trails around the lake in Grand Teton National Park last weekend.
Volunteers helped clear brush from two miles of trail. They also dug a 50-foot drainage feature to prevent trail erosion when it rains or when snow is melting.
The National Park service can’t possibly get to every backlogged project on their list, but some of the simpler ones do get done solely because of people like these who commit their time and energy to make America’s national parks sparkle.
Did you know some 131,039 hours of labor were donated by volunteers at Wyoming’s seven national parks in 2019?
Hats off to this crew!
