Abortion likely to be illegal in Wyoming within a month
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Supreme Court’s overturning of the landmark opinion on Roe v. Wade set off protests throughout Wyoming where abortion could become illegal in as little as 30 days.
A sizable gathering on town square was noted Friday afternoon as commuters honked in approval of the grassroots effort.
At least one local activist group took to social media to organize the demonstration as JH ACTivate rallied protesters in Jackson. Similar gatherings were noted in Laramie and Casper.
Once Governor Mark Gordon ratifies the Supreme Court ruling abortion will be banned in the state of Wyoming in 30 days. During the last legislative session, Wyoming lawmakers passed a “trigger bill” that bans abortions in the state except in the case of rape, incest, or the possibility of death or serious bodily injury for the mother. Idaho is similar.
Wyoming has only two clinics performing abortions. One in Jackson, and another newly-opened facility in Casper.
Utah and South Dakota made abortion illegal immediately upon the ruling. The closest place a woman in Wyoming could travel to receive a legal abortion would be Montana, Colorado, or Nebraska.
