Sandy 90% contained, mop up crew arrives
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Heckuva job, folks, and much appreciated!
While the rest of us were waving flags, eating hotdogs, watching the parade, firefighters on the Sandy were knocking the 105-acre blaze down to size. That hard, hot work paid off as the fire is nearly shit down and crews are demobilizing.
Firefighting efforts on the Sandy Fire have been nothing short of phenomenal. A Type 3 crew shut the blaze down in a week’s time and left other Type 1 and Type 2 incident teams to battle other larger fires. Hats off.
The Sandy is currently 90% contained. The latest IR flight found no hot spots, and the transition plan has been slightly accelerated as the Type 3 team has timed out for its service in the field.
All Type2 IA crews were released midweek, and all Type 1 IHCs were released as well.
The area closure has been reduced. Currently the Snag Creek drainage and Snag Creek Trail are closed. The Cliff Creek and Monument Ridge Trails remain open. Resources on the fire include: Type 4 Incident Commander, Type 4 Engine, Type 1 Fire Module, and Type 3 Helicopter.
A Type 1 WFM (Wildfire Module) transitioned to the fire today. It will mop up and prep the area for best future benefit. A Type 3 helicopter remains on site in case.
