Smoke on Teton Pass is Mosquito Creek Fire
Motorists are asked to NOT report this known fire
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Motorists on the commute home to Teton Valley are asked not to report smoke they may see on the horizon. This is a new fire, and a known fire.
The Mosquito Fire was reported on the Jackson Ranger District this afternoon in the vicinity of Mosquito Pass, south of Teton Pass. This 1/2-acre fire is visible from Teton Pass as well as around the Jackson Hole Valley. Authorities are asking motorists and all others to refrain from calling to report the smoke.
Ground and aviation resources are on scene and suppressing the fire.
Interagency helicopter 35 HX has delivered 2 firefighters and will bring another 3 in to help fully suppress this fire burning in shrub and timber. A small column of smoke might be visible from the valley floor and for those commuting over Teton Pass, to and from Jackson.
With the absence of heavy smoke experienced the last few days, fire managers remain vigilant in detecting smoke and any new fire activity from the storms over the area last week.
The cause of the blaze is undetermined at this time although it is suspected it started as a result of a lightning strike.
