St. John’s Health reports zero COVID patients in ICU

Other metrics trending down but masks remain on in Teton County

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Teton County remains in “Red” or high risk of transmission level despite tumbling metrics and growing evidence of “mask fatigue.”

As of Friday, November 5, St. John’s is reporting 0 laboratory confirmed COVID-19 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 3 COVID patients in their Primary Care Unit, 0% ICU beds occupied, and 46% total beds occupied.

As of November 5, the hospital had 438 total COVID-19 patient admissions. By comparison, on October 6, during the height of the second wave surge of the pandemic in Wyoming, St. John’s reported 100% of their ICU beds occupied and 85% of their total bed capacity occupied.

According to Health Department updates, Teton County has experienced a downward trend in new reported cases of COVID. A total of 62 new cases were reported over the past two weeks for the latest update on November 4. That compares with 84 on October 28, 76 on October 21, and 47 on October 15. Significant lower numbers than the 292 new cases reported in early September when health officials bumped the county into red.

A reported 93% of Teton County residents have been vaccinated. What happened to herd immunity?

Mask wearing in Teton County outside the Town of Jackson has been noticeably waning. At many places of business, the maskless outnumber the masked.

At this morning’s Board of County Commissioners voucher meeting, commissioner Greg Epstein again asked his colleagues to take another look at the county’s mask mandate that is not scheduled to expire until the end of the year.
