Tlaxcala, Mexico now Jackson’s new ‘sister city’
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Town officials named Tlaxcala, Mexico as Jackson’s new sister city. The declaration was made via resolution at a town council meeting in December.
Jackson and Tlaxcala share similar geographies. Both are mountainous areas with national parks nearby. Both communities are closely connected thanks to a shared cultural heritage, as many Tlaxcaltecas have moved to, work in, and settled in Jackson over the last 30 years.
The sister city designation will formalize and strengthen the relationship between the two cities. The continued partnership may include more formal exchanges via video call, as as well further programs and opportunities to learn from one another and gain perspective about what is happening in each area on the local level.
Previously, the Town of Jackson enjoyed a similar relationship with Lienz, Austria dating back to the 1970s.
