Two affordable housing developments more forward

Town advances housing project, county preserves historic home

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — On Monday, July 12 the Board of County Commissioners heard an update on the Brown Property development regarding the future of a historic homesite.

Teton County purchased this 1-acre property (6 lots) in June 2020 for $2,255,383.49. In January 2021, the Board of County Commissioners directed the Housing Department to partner with Habitat for Humanity to develop 18 Affordable townhouses for local families and individuals.

At the workshop Monday, the BCC directed staff to preserve the historic Benson/Brown cabin on the site along with the historic hydropower turbines located in the cabin’s basement. The continued efforts of the Historic Preservation Board was key to the decision, according to housing director April North.

Also on Monday, at the regular meeting of the Town Council, direction was given to the Housing Department to partner with Snow King Partners and BlueLine Development on a low-income affordable rental development at 400 West Snow King Avenue.

As designed currently, the development will provide 48 apartments that will serve households earning <60% median family income.

The next step for this project is to put together an application for Low Income Housing Tax Credits and bring the application back to the council for final review and approval. If approved, the developer will submit the application to the Wyoming Community Development Authority (WCDA) for consideration.
