Wildfire smoke: What are you missing?

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Smoke in the region from wildfires as far away as California and Oregon has done more than just denigrate a few wedding photos. Particulate matters in the air can be detrimental to some people’s health, especially those with a history of respiratory ailments.

For the majority of the population, well, we’ve kind of had to get used to the “new norm” of seeing (or NOT seeing) the effects of wildfire smoke beginning to creep into the area almost every July and August.

It is a gradual process that almost tricks the eye into not realizing what it’s not seeing. Check out this photo in comparison with the story’s feature photo:

The good folks at Yellowstone provided the side-by-side evidence, showing a clear day compared to what we’ve been experiencing lately. Recent monsoonal moisture and storms this past weekend helped to clear things up a bit, but with the rain came lightning and three new fire starts.
