JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Residents of Alpine commented on Facebook page Misty’s List about a shared experience many thought was an earthquake.
The event was described as a loud and short “jolt” occurring at 12:38am Wednesday morning. USGS confirmed the seismic activity as a 2.8 magnitude earthquake about 4 miles south of Alpine. It was felt as far away as Etna and Freedom.
According to reports on social media, the event woke dogs throughout the area and got them barking, especially in Star Valley Ranches.
There were no reported injuries or damage.
