45th annual World Championship Hill Climb gets underway
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The 45th annual World Championship Hill Climb is here, underway at Snow King Mountain all weekend beginning today.
The World Championship Snowmobile Hill Climb is part of a series of similar events put on by The Rocky Mountain States Hill Climb Association (RMSHA)—an all-volunteer organization that creates, operates and manages snowmobile hill climb racing events in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States.
Locally, the nonprofit Jackson Hole Snow Devils sponsor the hill climb, donating countless hours of their time and donating funds for charitable and educational purposes.
Racing takes place Thursday through Sunday, with Non-Pro Masters, Amateurs, Semi-Pro, Women, and Juniors starting the competition off at 9:30am, daily. With the low snowpack, the event will take a different route to the top this year. Riders will be climbing the new Wolverine run to the summit of Snow King Mountain.
About 20 members of the Jackson Hole Snow Devils started that very first small-scale hill climb in 1975, and what started as a few local boys high-marking a ski slope has grown into the World Championship Snowmobile Hill Climb. The four-day event now draws thousands of fans and hundreds of competitors. from all over the U.S. and Canada. It’s one of the largest nonprofit charity snowmobile events in the United States.
