Woke Jackson assembles Equity taskforce
LGBT: Liberal Government Bureaucratic Taskforce looking for members
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Town of Jackson says it has brainstormed, and the result appears to be a whole lotta DEI. Adapting 2020 buzzwords like diversity, equity, and inclusion, the town is looking to launch a taskforce that will advise electeds and staff on “equity and inclusion strategies and help strengthen connections among the many segments of the community.”
It’s sort of the opposite of Chugwater’s ‘smell test’ committee where a loosely formed panel there helps community leaders decide whether a thing is bullshit or not.
The inclusion movement took hold in Jackson during the Pete Muldoon mayoral era where defunding police, Trump bashing, and various liberal agenda hot ticket items like income redistribution through subsidized housing, LGBT rights, and climate change were the standard order of business instead of, say, less glamorous things like filling potholes and upgrading sewer infrastructure.
According to the town, Jackson’s Equity Taskforce will advise and make recommendations to the town and town council on priorities, policies, and solutions to help bring a wider variety of voices and perspectives into conversations and, ultimately, inform decision-making. The group will also consider existing policies, programs, and practices that can help advance equity, and potential changes or new policies that could help remove barriers to access.
The taskforce will decide where and what to focus on during its initial meetings, and then make recommendations to town staff and Town Council twice, annually.
Councilwoman Jessica Sell Chambers will presumably serve as the taskforce liaison to the council. It is she, after all, that has tried twice now to get an elected white guy to step down so their position can be filled by a more ‘diverse’ candidate.
The town is looking for a total of seven to fill out the fustian cabinet. Members will be asked to commit to serve 2-year terms during which they will attend monthly 3-hour public meetings, complete work outside meetings to prepare, and serve on at least one working group committee. For this they will receive a stipend of $450 a month.
The town is looking for applications through December 17. Middle-age white males or Morgan Wallen fans need not apply. Interviews are scheduled for January, and the taskforce could be seated as early as February. The first meeting of the group will take place April 2022.
