Broncs lock in #5 seed with win over Evanston
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Broncs completed a season sweep over the Evanston Red Devils with a 56-47 win on Senior Night Saturday in Jackson.
Jackson 56, Evanston 47
This time around, Jackson used a different approach to knocking off the Red Devils, who led after the 1st quarter. In Evanston four weeks ago, it was a steady dose of Andrew Hanna inside that the Devils had no answer for. Saturday, Gavin Keelin and Isaac Larsen torched Evanston from beyond the arc for 18 and 14 points, respectively, and the Broncs used a 20-9 2nd quarter to put the Red Devils away early.
Hanna finished the contest with 10 points, 7 boards, 5 blocks, and 3 steals—so he wasn’t exactly invisible. But Keelin (63%) and Larsen (54%) both converted on more than half the shots they took from the field. Carson Harland added 8.
Jackson played without guard Sebastian Brunner, who has reportedly left the team over personal differences with coach Hayden Hatfield. His 10 points a game on average will be missed but fellow guards Larsen and Harland look ready to step into the void.
Evanston got a superb performance out of sophomore Brighton Smith who finished with 16 to lead all Red Devils scorers.
Seniors Henry Berezay, David Danby, and Sam Scott were feted at the game. They all played their last game in front of the hometown fans at JHHS gymnasium.
With the win, Jackson improves to 8-10 overall, 4-6 on the season. They will match up with the Cody Broncs (6-13, 4-6) Thursday to begin Regionals.
