Giants pitching rocked in 3 losses last weekend
Post 43 now at 5-5 on the season
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Jackson Giants were cooled off a bit at their most recent tournament last weekend at Lansing Field in Casper.
Post 43 came into play on a 2-game winning streak but after beating the Rock Springs Stallions for the third time this season early Saturday, the Giants dropped the next 3 games against some stiff competition.
Jackson 10, Rock Springs 6
It was Matt Fisher’s turn to shine for Jackson Saturday both on the mound and in the box. Fisher turned in 3 innings where he surrendered 2 earned runs on 5 hits. He struck out 3 and walked 3 for the win.
Fisher also helped himself at the plate as well where he went 2-4 and knocked in a run. Aaron Huggins did the same to continue his hot start to ’22. Seven different batters had hits and RBIs for Jackson.
Warren Newton and Lucas Gralund also pitched for the Giants.
Casper 13, Jackson 0
Things didn’t go quite so well for the G-Men later Saturday when they took on the Casper Baseball Club. Casper pounded starter Aaron Huggins (1-1), chasing him after 2 innings work with a bloated line: 10 earned runs on 13 hits for the loss.
Meanwhile, Jackson could not do much on offense. Huggins managed the team’s only hit in the shutout loss.
Miles City 11, Jackson 2
The Giants enjoyed a brief lead in their first game Sunday as they jumped out to a 1-0 advantage off an RBI single from Huggins in the top half of the 1st inning.
Miles City struck back with 2 of their own in their half of the opening frame, eventually chasing Jackson starter Wylie Wilkes in the 3rd inning after he gave up 9 earned runs on 9 hits.
Laramie 15, Jackson 7
The Giants offense again came out smoking with 4 runs in the 1st. Xander Witt’s speed has been giving opponents fits early this season. The leadoff hitter scored both Jackson runs against Miles City and has been effective getting on base and getting home.
Witt led off with a walk. Mason Wright followed with a double. Matt Fisher knocked them both in with a 2-RBI single. Huggins, Ayden Gralund, and Lucas Gralund followed with base hits of their own—all before the inning’s first out.
A 3-run homerun from Laramie’s Ben Ruckman got the Rangers right back in it with one inning in the books.
The Giants got 2 more in the top half of the 2nd for a brief 6-3 lead. Wright started the scoring run with a one-out double. Fisher followed with a single. With runners at the corners, Huggins knocked in a run with a base knock. Ayden Gralund followed with a sac fly to score Fisher.
Starter Xander Witt ran into more trouble in the bottom of the 2nd and would eventually give way to Mason Wright after 3 innings of work where he gave up 5 earned runs on 6 hits and 5 walks. He also surrendered 3 homers in picking up the loss.

Post 43 is now 5-5 on the season. The Giants have a weekend off before heading to Rock Springs for the Southwest Series where Jackson will meet up with Laramie, Rock Springs, Evanston, and Green River.
