Busy meeting day for town as property tax is considered
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Town Council will enjoy a busy day today as elected leaders will convene for a back-to-back workshop and regular meeting.
The town’s workshop will take place in the Council Chambers and via Zoom starting at 1pm today.
Director updates will be presented from START Bus, town administration and staff, and the Jackson Police Department. Assistant public works director Johnny Ziem will present about the Pearl Avenue sidewalks.
Then, community development director Tyler Sinclair and the town building official Kelly Sluder will present updates to the town’s building and construction codes.
Finally, Ziem will also update the electeds on a recently-completed water and sewer systems capacity study.
Regular meeting of the Council
At 6pm, Town Council will begin its regular meeting in the Council Chambers and via Zoom starting off with the introduction of the town’s new police officer Alberto Rojas, as well as multiple summer interns in various departments.
A fee pledge for 440 West Kelly Ave will be presented by housing director April Norton.
Town clerk Lynsey Lenamond will present a liquor license application from Virginian Liquor LLC.
Assistant town manager Roxanne Robinson will speak about the construction at the Si Ferrin space across the street from town hall.
Town manager Larry Pardee will tee up a discussion on property tax in the town and whether there is an appetite for that. Town councilors have talked about raising property taxes ever since a 7th penny of sales tax was voted down a couple of years ago. The town is considering anywhere from 0.5 mills to the maximum 8 mills rate raise.
An 8-mill levy, for instance, would increase property taxes by $760 a year for a million dollar home in Jackson.
Finance director Kelly Thompson will also present an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2021 budget, and look for adoption of the FY2022 budget, which begins July 1.
