Community mourns the passing of Danny Mayer, ‘Voice of the Broncs’
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Longtime “Voice of the Broncs” Danny Mayer passed away yesterday at his home in Afton. He was 71.
Mayer is best known for calling Jackson Broncs high school sports for decades on the radio, finally hanging up his headset in 2018.
A memorial service for the husband, son, father, brother, grandfather, and friend will be held at 11am on Monday, February 7, at First Baptist Church, located at 90 West Kelly Avenue in Jackson. It will be followed by lunch in the fellowship hall.
Mayer was left in a wheelchair after a 1995 car accident. He endured numerous surgeries and health complications over the years including a most recent crash in 2020 that he barely survived.
At football games, basketball games, whatever sport he covered, student athletes would come running to help him get situated in a spot to do his play-by-play, carrying him where he needed to be.
Mayer was truly dedicated to the community, and poured his heart into high school sports broadcasting.
