Community rallies for Leland Christensen
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Leland Christensen is one of those larger-than-life kind of characters, his life built around service to community. Former sheriff’s deputy, former county commissioner, state senator, and go-to auctioneer—Christensen is quick with a smile and a handshake.
The Alta cowboy has been hospitalized since December 19 with complications from COVID. Christensen was then moved to a regional hospital on Christmas Eve, and finally admitted to the ICU December 29.
“He is fighting the sickness with everything he has, but he is still currently in the ICU,” said Leland’s son Hunter. “Leland’s battle has been intense so far, but he has been making baby steps of progress. Most recently, his lungs have been making improvements in the right direction.”
Christensen has a long road of recovery ahead, according to family members. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help handle growing medical expenses. It is also a place to visit to check on updates for Leland.
Hunter shared a comment from Leland before he headed to ICU. He was asked what the biggest life lesson he has learned so far.
“The love and support from friends and family and neighbors is humbling,” Leland said.
