Cops looking for guy who toppled elk statue in front of The Rose
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Police are looking for information about a man who caused damage to a downtown sculpture late last Saturday night. Drunk and disgruntled (allegedly), an unidentified male is observed in video surveillance footage sending a bronze elk statue crashing to the ground outside of the Pink Garter Plaza, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
The Jackson Police Department is investigating the incident that occurred at the Pink Garter Plaza on March 27 at approximately 12:55am. The bronze elk statue that sits out front of the plaza was pushed over by what appears to be a disgruntled male.
Video footage obtained by investigators clearly shows a male suspect attempting to enter The Rose. He was, perhaps, denied entry and is soon seen wandering about the courtyard for a few moments. He then grabs a bike rack and slams it to the ground, and soon after walks over to the iconic elk statue, lights a cigarette, and leans against the piece. The statue then wobbles momentarily, giving our perp a bad idea. Yup, he then shoves the statue over and it crashes to the boardwalk, snapping off an antler.
The suspect then exits the scene westbound on the sidewalk of Broadway. The impact with the boardwalk caused an estimated $5,000 damage to repair a damaged antler on the statue.
The suspect is a white male wearing gray pants, an orange two-tone parka, and a Dakine trucker hat. He appears to be approximately 40-50 years old, 5’11–6’1” tall, and weighs approximately 160–175lbs.
The suspect reportedly spoke with several patrons of The Rose prior to his departure so there is a good chance someone witnessed what might have happened or is able to help police identify the suspect.
