Dr. Brent Blue forced to resign from hospital over personal computer
Blue will continue as county coroner
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Just days after announcing to the world results of the autopsy on Gabby Petito, Teton County Coroner and contracted physician at St. John’s Health Dr. Brent Blue says he is being forced out at the hospital over a dispute about using his personal laptop at work.
Blue posted news of his resignation on Facebook on Thursday where he also shared his challenging work of late as coroner.
“As you all know, this past month has been stressful for a multitude of reasons including my work on the Petito case, and dealing with media, law enforcement on multiple levels, plus a few wackos who have sent emails,” Blue posted.
Blue also described the scenario which led to his termination at St. John’s.
“Unfortunately, St. John Health had told me I cannot use my personal computer at work even though other doctors do; plus it is critical for my coroner responsibilities. It does not interfere with my work with patients and other SJH duties. They have essentially forced me to resign effective February 10 due to this prohibition,” Blue added.
Blue owned an urgent care center in the TJ Maxx Plaza. Emerg-a-Care was purchased by St. John’s Health in early 2020. Blue was to remain on as a staff physician at the facility. That arrangement has apparently come to an end as Blue gave his 120-day notice this week.
St. John’s Health itself has been under admin restructuring. The abrupt resignation of CEO Will Wagnon after just 6 months on the job led to David Robertson taking over until a replacement can be found. Buckrail is also reporting Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Marsha Sensat was let go by the hospital this week.
Blue says he will return to private practice of a limited nature sometime next year.
“I am prohibited by contract from saying anything derogatory about the hospital but you would think with all the recent publicity, they would have been honored to be associated with me,” Blue said.
