Elementary school bus arrives at Munger on fire
Incident was quickly resolved, no one hurt
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — A school bus fire was quickly extinguished this morning by two drivers who prevented it from doing more damage than it did.
Upon arriving at Munger Mountain Elementary School this morning, the engine on bus #20 caught on fire. The fire was contained to the engine compartment in the back of the bus after that driver and another noticed the smoke and were able to quickly extinguish the fire before it could spread into the cab of the bus.
While fire suppression efforts were underway, Munger Mountain school staff safely evacuated students from the bus. No one was hurt in the incident.
“We are grateful for the quick actions of our staff and the students who participate in bus evacuation drills at the beginning of each school year,” said Charlotte Reynolds, Teton County School District spokesperson. Special recognition to Jeff Parrott, JayJay Demtris, Joe Kravetsky, John Labrec, Kurt Cantu, Laurel Perry, Melissa Snider, Kelly Matthews, and Angela Holstedt.
In accordance with safety protocols all students who were outside at the time of the fire were ushered into the school and Jackson Hole Fire/EMS was called. Fire crews were able to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
MMES counselors checked in with the students who were on the bus as well as those who witnessed the fire to make sure they were okay after the incident.
Buses ran on a normal schedule at the end of the school day without incident.
