Fairgrounds tennis courts to be resurfaced
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The tennis courts at the fairground will be undergoing resurfacing later this week. It could be an indication of the rodeo grounds eventually moving and here’s why:
The two tennis courts at the fairgrounds have long been eyed as an area of expansion by fair managers. As the fair and rodeo run out of room with their operations, opening up the tennis courts and Mateosky ball park to fairground use made sense to some.
But now talks of moving the fairgrounds have gained traction in recent years. With development going on in northern South Park, a roomier fairgrounds property would appear to make more sense—one certainly welcomed by anyone pulling a horse trailer.
But the Chamber of Commerce, as well as the lodging community in Jackson has always opposed a move of the grounds. They like the close proximity and even vibrancy of a property situated within easy reach of visitors.
Replacing the fairgrounds with housing has also raised controversy.
At any rate, it is unlikely the county would spend money resurfacing tennis courts on the grounds unless the long game there does not include rodeoing.
Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation will have a contractor resurface the Fairground Tennis Courts starting on or about Friday June 25. The courts will be closed to public use from Friday, June 24 through Thursday, July 1.
The land was given for a select purpose if Rodeo and Fair and should remain as such. A for housing taking tax dollars from others to subsidize affordable housing is not only not fair its absolutely taxation without representation. The need of employees from the resorts and tomahawk shops to further pilfer the valleys resources should dense rye supported with tax dollars. Not one more dime of tax payer money to subsidize another mortgage. there are nearly 1000 government owned properties in the county at this point, none of which should be funded by the public.
