Fun Run done: Old Bill’s will go virtual for second straight year
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Community Foundation of Jackson Hole today announced the 25th annual Old Bill’s Fun Run will go virtual for the second straight year due to the pandemic.
“Considering the high rate of transmission of COVID in our community and the recent increase in the COVID-19 risk level from Orange (Moderate) to Red (High), the Community Foundation is taking steps to ensure the safety and welfare of the Jackson community by calling off its Run Day festivities including the 5k and10k Run/Walk and Nonprofit Village, which were previously scheduled for September 11,” the foundation stated in a release today. “Up until today, Run Day plans were being modified in compliance with the town’s special event rules for in-person gatherings of up to 500 people, however the revised Run Day plans are no longer viable now that our community has entered the Red risk level.”
Old Bill’s is a communitywide fundraiser that typically draws some 3,500 people to the downtown area. The races and all event-related activities were also cancelled in 2020 out of concern for the spread of the coronavirus.
“Old Bill’s Fun Run is about community and how we care for each other,” said Laurie Andrews, president of the Community Foundation “We broke all fundraising records last year as we rallied around our nonprofit friends despite difficult circumstances. The spirit of Old Bill’s is powerful, and I know we can take care of each other, celebrate the 25th anniversary, and make this year spectacular.”
