Giants bats bust out in Sunday sweep of Rock Springs

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Post 43 Jackson Giants are off to a fast start with a doubleheader sweep of the Rock Springs Stallions last weekend.

The Giants showed off their new-look offense with a pair of decisive wins over the Stallions on Sunday to improve their record to 4-2 overall.

How good was this guy Sunday? Coaches son Aaron Huggins dominated on the mound in the opener and let his bat do the talking (6-10, 7 RBI, 6 R) in both victories. (Post 43 Giants)

Jackson wasted no time jumping all over the Stallions in the opener Sunday with 3 runs in the top half of the 1st—all with two outs after Ayden Gralund and Xander Witt both whiffed to start the game. A walk to Matt Fisher, a Lucas Gralund RBI triple, and an Aaron Huggins RBI single had the Giants out front 3-0 before the Stallions first licks at the plate.

Huggins would finish the game 3 for 6 with 5 RBI. He also grabbed the win with 4 2/3 stellar innings on the mound. Mason Wright knocked in a pair of runs with 3 doubles on the afternoon. He also finished up for Huggins on the hill, surrendering 1 run in 2 1/3 innings work.

Every Giant had a hit as Jackson pounded out 18 in total to go with 9 walks and 5 Rock Springs errors.

Huggins again led the offense with 3 singles in 4 trips to the plate, knocking in 2 runs. Xander Witt went 3-4, and Matt Fisher and Owen Khanna added 2 hits apiece.

Jackson never trailed in the nightcap, putting a 5-spot up in the top half of the 2nd inning and 6 more runs in the 4th.

Rock Springs fought back, though, chasing Giants starter Witt from the game in the bottom of the 4th with a 4-run outburst of their own. Witt finished with the win, however, working 3 1/3, scattering 6 runs on 5 hits. He walked 4 and struck out 4.

Hard-throwing rookie Wylie Wilkes—who coach Jason Huggins is high on—finished the pitching chores with an impressive 2 1/3, striking out 5 without issuing a walk. Wilkes also swatted a 2-run double in the 4th.

The Giants were again patient at the plate, working 13 base on balls from Rock Springs hurlers. Jackson finished with 18 runs on 13 hits. Defensively, the G-men committed just one error and turned 5 double plays.
