Giants hope to shake losing streak at home in Teton Classic
JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Post 43 Jackson Giants are geared up for hosting the Teton Classic this holiday weekend beginning with a game tonight at 8pm against the Idaho Falls Tigers.
The Giants are hoping the home cooking will help the bottom line, which is looking a bit ugly at 7-29 after two more losses Tuesday against Casper.
Casper 8, Jackson 5
Jackson played well enough to win both games against Casper but could not manufacture a W against the Oilers. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
In the opener of a twinbill Tuesday, Jackson hit and fielded better than they have of late. After spotting the Oilers a 3-0 lead, Post 43 tied things 4-4 in dramatic fashion with a 2-out rally in the bottom of the 7th. A single by Xander Witt got things going, and Ayden Gralund knocked in the tying run with an RBI single moments later.
But the Giants couldn’t scratch across the walk-off winner or hold the fort. Austin VanSkike ran into trouble in the top of the 8th. Parker Bleggi was uncharacteristically wild in relief, and Jackson surrendered 4 runs in the top of the 8th inning, eventually losing 8-5 in extras.
Casper 10, Jackson 7
After the oh-so-close bid, the Giants still had something in the tank for Casper in the nightcap. Again spotting the Oilers a 3-0 lead, Jackson pecked away with a pair of runs in the 2nd, 3 in the 4th, and 2 more in the 6th to take an 8-7 lead into the final inning.
But Casper plated 4 in their half of the 7th inning against reliever Bridger Hammond and completed the doubleheader sweep of the Giants.
