Giants stifled by Rebs in Pocatello

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — The Pocatello Runnin’ Rebels jumped all over the Jackson Giants in a Saturday doubleheader in Pokie. The Giants didn’t appear ready to play in the opener, and the bats remained quiet in the nightcap.

Jackson starter Xander Witt (5-3) was just plain ambushed in the 1st before he could even develop any kind of rhythm. Witt got just one hitter out after errors opened the door for a big Rebel 7-run inning. The Giants never recovered from the poor start.

Trayson Kostial doubled home a pair of runs in the 3rd for Jackson but that was it for the offense as the G-Men managed just 4 hits.

The Giants played better defense in the second game but the offense was a no-show until the game’s final innings when Matt Fisher doubled home Tray Kostial.

Kostial went 2 for 2 with a triple. Ayden Gralund and Owen Khanna added singles.

Wylie Wilkes (0-4) took the loss after giving up 3 earned runs in 4 innings. Wilkes walked 6 and hit a batter. When he was around the plate, the flamethrower’s stuff was fairly effective.

Post 43 returns home to begin a very busy stretch of baseball. The Giants (16-14) will host Sheridan (19-5) for a stand-alone doubleheader Tuesday night beginning at 5pm. The same two teams met previously this season on May 28 with the Troopers pulling out an 8-5 win.

Immediately following is the start of the annual Chris Hodges Memorial Tournament which kicks off Wednesday through the weekend. Jackson will face teams from Colorado and Utah.

With a break on Sunday, Jackson is back on the diamond with games against Libby, Montana on Monday, and twinbill with Evanston on Tuesday, before hitting the road for a tourney in St. George, Utah next weekend.
