Giants vs Bulldogs Pt. II: Same, same

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — It was déjà vu all over again as Yankee great Yogi Berra was credited as uttering. Tuesday night at Giants Field looked a lot like Friday night at Giants Field—same two teams and nearly identical results.

Giants 3, Bulldogs 2

Like they did in Friday’s first of two, Jackson won a 3-2 game over Upper Valley after coming from behind. Also, as in Friday’s contest, the Giants did it behind a strong outing from a lefthanded starter. This time it was Steven Ashurts’ turn to pick up the win with a dazzling complete game performance surrendering just 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2.

Either the Bulldogs can’t hit lefties or Kade Foulke and Steven Ashurts are just that good.

On offense, the Giants spread the love with hits coming from seven different batters including a 2-3 night from Aaron Huggins.

A walkoff error off the bat of Ayden Gralund that 3rd baseman Karter Yancey muffed was the difference.

Bulldogs 12, Giants 0

Following Friday’s script, Upper Valley put up a crooked number early and cruised to a blowout win in the nightcap.

Grant Parkin (0-3) took the loss for Post 43, allowing 12 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits while also walking 2. Lukas Gralund mopped up throwing a quiet 1 1/3 innings.

It all unraveled for the Giants as sloppy play defensively (4 errors in all) opened the door to make big innings even bigger.

Meanwhile, Bulldogs starter Landon Drake was impressive picking up the win. An explosive fastball helped him work 3 scoreless innings. Drake allowed no hits and struck out 7 Giants hitters. Kaimen Peebles worked the final 2 innings giving up just 2 hits while whiffing 4.
